Articling Program

Nixon Wenger recognizes the value of an articling program, and provides a program which is a comprehensive introduction to the practice of law.

We typically look for applicants who have a good academic background, strong interpersonal skills, and whom we feel would be a solid asset to the firm not only as a student but as a future associate and partner. To that end, we have often focused on applicants who have roots in the Okanagan Valley.

As a student, you will be assigned one partner who will act as a principal throughout your articles, and you will also be assigned an associate "buddy" to whom you can turn for help or advice at any time. There is no formal rotation system. Instead, you can expect to receive instructions directly from lawyers in any of our practice areas. We do, however, try to ensure that your articles will be well-rounded and that you are provided with exposure to a variety of barrister's and solicitor's work.

Compensation at Nixon Wenger is competitive with salaries elsewhere in the province, and is reviewed every year. Articling students' salaries are paid while that student attends the Professional Legal Training Course, and the PLTC fees are also paid by the firm. Articling students can expect two to three weeks of vacation during their articling year and participation in our benefits program.

Applications should be received about a year in advance of the start of articles (so apply as soon as second-year grades have been received). Please include transcripts, as grades are an important but by no means decisive hiring factor.
